The Amazing Kenyan Camel Mobile Library

I found the Camel Book drive site by way of Boing Boing’s posting on this subject.

This is about the Mobile Camel Library operating up in Northeastern province of Kenya, pretty close of the border with Somalia border which brings books to the semi-nomadic folks up in that region. This library service is part of the Kenya library system is was set up to provide library services and help increase the literacy rates in the North-Eastern part of the country. The service started running in October 1996 and is based primarily around Garissa.

The BBC is also running a photo journal on the Mobile Camel Library where I downloaded the above image.

For those of you interested in helping out this library by donating books through the Camel Book Drive website

To find out more about the Kenya National Library services and the Mobile Camel Library, here is a link the Kenya National Library Services website and an a direct link to the Mobile Camel Library Service page.
