Amazing Grace

I saw the movie Amazing Grace a couple of weeks ago.

I would say that is one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen. And although we in Kenya learned about Wilbur Wilberforce in our history class, I did not realize that it actually took him 15 years of persistence, every year introducing a bill to abolish slavery and each year losing the vote in the British parliament. What is even more remarkable was that his health was really poor and it would have been easy for anyone with that type of health problem to simply take it easy and do nothing… I found this movie to be very inspiring…

It was also good to see the connection between Wilberforce and John Newton, the ex-slave ship captain turned born again believer who also composed and penned the words to one of the most famous praise and worship hymns in history, ‘Amazing Grace’.
